Rental Review: Luna Lodge, Paia Maui Hawaii USA
Finding a inexpensive place to stay on Maui for your next surf vacation can be difficult. There are a few things that must be checked off my list when seeking one out; close to surf (walking distance), clean, private, and cheap! Luckily, after looking on www.vrbo.com for about 2 weeks I decided that we should check out the Maui Luna Lodge in Paia.
The whole process is going to be a bit weird but it actually is quite efficient for the owners. You check the dates to see if they are available, if they are pay half of the total fees for your time at Luna Lodge, and then 1 month before your trip pay the other half. Once you pay your 2nd half they give you the address and the code to the key lock box. The key lock box is the secret success to this place. You never meet anyone to “check in” you just go to whichever place you rented and punch your code in and viola, you have checked in.
Get a picture in your head of this place… it is not a resort, it is not a hotel or anything with a beautiful grounds, it is a quadruplex in a residential neighbourhood in Paia. It is very private, and you only see the neighbour once and a while. The street is gravel, they have parking for you, and you can walk absolutely everywhere in town.
Inside everything is very basic, which is fine…really what more do you need then a queen sized bed, fridge, stove, toaster, microwave, pull out couch, and TV? Really you don’t even need half of that stuff. The place was spotless when we got there, and we didn’t see one bug the entire time which I thought was great for a walk out basement suite.
Probably the best part of the whole place was the HOT outdoor shower. Coming back from a session and rinsing off in a hot shower is amazing, especially for those sessions that you paddle in after dark on…. the only way it would be better is if it was a private outdoor shower….
Prices range from about $65 – $85 per night at the Luna Lodge making it one of the more affordable places in town if you don’t want to stay at the hostel. We were happy with our stay at Luna Lodge, it gives you the feeling of being part of the community, a local, for that 1 week that you’re able to get away for your surf vacation.
